Rooted in South Florida’s vibrant culture, the band’s sound is further enriched by Latin grooves influenced by their members’ Latino heritage—a unique flavor that sets them apart in the jam music community.
Long Bio:
Snake Lounge began as an nameless collaboration between Daniel Arteaga (bass) and Bryce Ponnudurai (guitar), initially created to present an educational session on musical soundscapes to the Florida Atlantic University Department of Music. The project included a lecture on the history and significance of soundscapes, culminating in a live performance of an original composition titled Purple Veldt. This 30-minute psychedelic funk-fusion piece featured complex, improvised soundscapes, designed to transport listeners through dynamic sonic environments. The goal was to inspire their peers with a passion for unorthodox music and expand their understanding of the boundless possibilities within soundscaping. The following summer, Bryce and Daniel participated in a life-changing study abroad program in Japan, where they immersed themselves in the culture and connected with local musicians through spontaneous jam sessions. These experiences deepened their appreciation for collaborative creativity and sparked a vision for a community-oriented collective upon their return home.
Four of the five eventual Snake Lounge members—Daniel Arteaga (bass), Bryce Ponnudurai (guitar), Alfred Williams Jr. (keyboard), and Jake Nicholson (drums)—were part of the original presentation, titled Soundscaping with Dan and Friends. Shortly afterward, Marcelo Puccini joined the group on synth and percussion, completing the lineup and officially forming Snake Lounge. After submitting their track "Purple Veldt" to the 2024 NPR Tiny Desk Competition, Snake Lounge quickly gained traction in the South Florida music scene, performing at numerous local venues. In September 2024, the band released a self-produced live EP, Snake Lounge Comes Home, showcasing their signature blend of psychedelic jazz fusion. While the lineup shifted with Alfred (keyboard) departing to explore other ventures, the remaining quartet continues to thrive, delivering electrifying performances. Recent highlights include headlining the December 2024 Legends on the Lawn event hosted by Palm Beach County, launching a monthly residency at The Peach Art Collective in 2025, and playing for the Bridging the Music miniFEST at Crazy Uncle Mike's, Boca Raton. Snake Lounge remains dedicated to pushing musical boundaries and captivating audiences with their dynamic soundscapes.
